It’s still here, and changing faster than ever. Email marketing is still completely relevant and useful to increase your companies return on investment. There are however, plenty of challenges to contend with and opportunities provided with the future of email marketing.
Today, I want to tell you how to remain (or become) successful in the realm of email marketing. I hope this will teach you how to seize the opportunities and downsize on the challenges you experience.
Optimize for Modern Inboxes
This is the era of electronics; most of us spend the majority of our day on a tablet, a computer, and a cell phone (sometimes all at once!). It’s important to know the benefits and details of your market. For example, the iPhone 6+ offers three lines of preview text in an email – giving you more characters to seal the deal! Make sure that you’re providing potential clients with a familiar name, a quick and catchy subject line, and preview text that gives the reader a concise idea of the topic. Most people don’t have time to read things that do not pertain to them, or are not interesting, so make sure that the 3 lines you have are using meaningfully!
Obtain a Domain
Some internet providers have enacted the DMARC (domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) policy. This policy helps to legitimize emails sent by certain domains. Now, it’s much more common for emails from free domains to be rejected (i.e Hotmail) by providers who are complying with this policy. The easiest way to avoid this is to purchase your own domain. In addition to ensuring that your emails get to your clients, it adds an air of professionalism and legitimacy. So, make sure you’re sending those important emails from yourname@yourcompany.com or something similar!
Adhere to Anti-Spam Laws
We gave an in-depth report on CASL in a previous post. Make sure to refer to it so you know the rules on consent and opt-in or out procedures! This is just another way to respect potential clients and increase the legitimacy and professionalism of your company – no one likes to be bombarded with meaningless emails that they aren’t interested in!
Unsubscribe Links
Previously, most people tried to hide the unsubscribe link, sometimes in a very light grey at the bottom of the email in between the legal jargon. Now, it has been found that the more accessible the unsubscribe button is, the less likely the reader will actually click it. In addition, Gmail has instated an unsubscribe button at the top of messages. However, if your content is relevant, honest, and periodic then the chances of your clients unsubscribing is much lower.
Finally, ensure you have a list of contacts that is relevant to your company/product. There is nothing worse than having an inbox filled with useless banter that doesn’t apply to me. If you’re having trouble with unsubscribed leads or difficulty with your leads – check out ExchangeLeads for more information on how to update or enhance your contact list. We can help provide you with vetted, legitimate leads that are specific to your industry and help YOU grow your business today.
