THE PROBLEM: is that many companies in the market are selling lists that don’t have accurate data. People change positions, change jobs, and change phone numbers daily, but year after year they continue to sell the exact same list. I remember in my first company, we spent thousands of dollars on an email list and had 40% unsubscribe, 20% inaccurate information and the marketing budget was used up with nothing to show.
The Beginning of ExchangeLeads
In 2013, I was having a business talk with my now co-founder about how can we solve the problem that, like us, thousands of companies around the world are having today. We noticed that we both used (trade shows, email blasts, and cold calling) as our number one way to generate leads for our business. This had worked at both of our previous companies, but for a smaller company with a smaller budget it was not effective anymore as our data was outdated.
Meanwhile, Shawn started to do market research to see if people would be willing to trade in their unsubscribe emails for new leads so that they can double their leads without paying anything. Companies were ecstatic that they could trade in their current list of contacts that they were no longer using. As Shawn said “Companies can now spend zero dollars and double their leads with one simple automated software”.
So I now solved the problem of helping companies save thousands of dollars on their email marketing campaigns. But a new issue arose: I could be receiving inaccurate data with missing, or even non-existent fields. This is where my business partner, or technology developer, said that we could build our own technology to clean all data that comes into our software and only provide credits to clean contacts that have a minimum amount of data. A year and a half later, the technology was built to ensure that we provide our customers accurate data that we were never provided.
